Why train with Mutual Driving School?

Mutual Driving School offers flexibility with the training course payment options. You can pay as you go, paying for each module separately, pay for your course in instalments or pay for the course in full to take advantage of the discounts available. The course has been tailored to take into account both your ability and availability. As a guide, the course takes between three and six months. If you want to be on the road quicker, we will work with you to try and achieve this, subject to certain factors such as the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) test availability.

The training course consists of 3 modules, Theory (Part 1), Driving Ability (Part 2) and Instructional Ability (Part 3). You have to pass all three parts in this order and must complete the whole examination within the two years of passing the theory test (Part 1).

ADI Theory

This test is made up of 2 sections: Multiple choice and Hazard perception. You need to pass both sections before you can move onto Part 2.

We provide you with all of the materials you will need, along with online and telephone mentoring to help with your studies.

ADI Driving

This is very similar to the current driving test for learners, but slightly longer and more robust.

You need to pass part 2 before you can move onto part 3. Your personal trainer will assess your current driving skills in order to tailor a detailed program of training to help you pass.

You will receive at least 10 hours of in-car training.

ADI Instructor Ability

From 2nd October 2017 this part of the qualification process is being updated and the examiner will observe a real 60-minute driving lesson taking place with either a learner driver or a qualified driver seeking development.
For this part you'll receive 40 hours of 1-to-1 training with your Mutual Driving School trainer providing you with the skills and underpinning knowledge to deliver a course of effective driving training.
The training you will receive will be:

  • Highly focused on developing your skills as a driving instructor before introducing driving lesson subjects
  • Supported with additional learning materials for each in-car training session you complete
  • Mapped against your own individual learning plan and progress record
  • Reflective of both the DVSA requirements and Mutual Driving Schools commitment to improving road safety

After passing all three parts of the DVSA test, you'll be awarded a green badge that means you're a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI)
